The UK poultry feed market was evaluated at US$1,401.979 million for the year 2020, growing at a CAGR of 2.41% reaching a market size of US$1,656.489 million by the year 2027.

Farmers use the poultry feed to feed poultry, including chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, and other domestic birds. Modern feed is prepared by carefully selecting and blending components to provide a highly nutritious diet that maintains the health of poultry birds while also boosting the quality of end products like meat and eggs. Minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins, and water are the most important nutrients for poultry birds' development, reproduction, and health. The majority of the energy necessary for development comes from carbohydrates and fats. Chicken protein is also a significant source of energy for chickens, particularly when carbohydrate and fat intake are low.

In the forecast period of 2020-2027, rising preferences for animal protein, global growth of the egg and poultry industries, rising population, rising health awareness regarding protein consumption, and the per capita consumption of meat are some of the factors that will certainly boost the growth of the UK poultry feed market. Meat products are fast expanding in popularity as a result of rising health concerns, which are driving commercial livestock production. According to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), poultry feed output in the country increased by 2.0 percent in 2019.  Increased demand for meat has resulted in increased production, which has boosted the poultry feed market's growth. Furthermore, the prevalence of low-cost feed and expanding consumer preferences for white meat would further increase the numerous prospects for the poultry feed market to grow throughout the projection period.

On the other hand,  volatility in raw material prices, as well as environmental concerns, are expected to stymie the poultry feed market's expansion throughout the forecast period.

In recent years, the broiler category has grown to become the largest by type. Growing demand for chicken meat due to its high protein content has emerged as a major driver of industry expansion. Broilers are raised solely to produce meat. Broiler farming is growing in response to the rising demand for chicken meat, which is fueled by the availability of protein-rich meat at a low cost. One of the most critical aspects of broiler farming is proper nutrition. In the UK poultry feed market, the layers category, on the other hand, is ranked as the second-largest section. The primary purpose of layer farming is to produce eggs. As the world's population grows, so does the demand for food and energy, increasing food production around the world. The key demand drivers for the expansion of the layer category are rising per capita egg consumption and worldwide population growth.

In recent years, the amino acid in the additives segment has emerged as the largest in terms of volume and revenue, and it is expected to increase at a rapid rate in the coming years. Because amino acids are one of the most essential sources of protein, they are extremely important in poultry nutrition. Amino acid helps minimize the amount of soy protein in a monogastric animal's diet due to its high protein content.

The UK is predicted to develop at a substantial CAGR over the forecast period. As per the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), poultry meat is the most popular meat in the country, followed by pork. The per capita intake of poultry meat was 27.1 kg in 2016, and it has risen to 28.3 kg in 2019. According to the latest data provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), clean pig slaughter in the United Kingdom was 910,300 head in April 2020, a 2% rise over April 2019, with a meat quantity of 81700 tons, a 4% increase over the same month. The growth of pig meat is the outcome of advertising and promotions for British pork as a convenient and healthy midweek supper over the preceding two years. This will boost the poultry market even more during the forecasted period.

COVID-19 Impact

In the United Kingdom, the COVID-19 outbreak slowed the growth of the poultry feed industry. According to AHDB data, the only feed sector in the UK that decreased year over year in July 2020 was poultry feed production. According to the data, poultry feed was down 4% from the previous year in July 2020. The shutdown of restaurants during the lockdown contributed to the drop in poultry meat demand. The poultry feed sector, on the other hand, thrived in the latter stages owing to exemptions from lockdown laws and an increase in poultry meat consumption. Increased house purchases were expected to have tempered the decrease in foodservice demand for poultry. According to Kantar Worldpanel, the volume of chicken sold through retail climbed 8.8% annualized at the end of August.

Recent Development

Tyson Foods, the world's second-largest poultry company, debuted a new line of chicken snack products in the United Kingdom in May 2021.

In February 2019, American multinational Tyson Foods announced its intention to purchase BRF S.A.'s Thai and European operations. Four processing plants in Thailand, one in the Netherlands, and one in the United Kingdom are part of the deal.

Cargill increased its range of artificial intelligence-powered solutions in January 2022 to provide poultry producers with actionable insights.

In February 2021, as part of its growth strategy, ABN announced plans to construct the UK's largest, state-of-the-art feed mill in the East of England, capable of producing 1 million tonnes of pig and poultry feed annually.
