The Morocco infection control market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 2.13% over the forecast period to attain a market size of US$22.965 million in 2027, from US$19.818 million in 2020. In Morocco, there has been a shift in the epidemiological profile, which has resulted in an increase in the burden of diseases that require no contact to spread (non-communicable diseases). These diseases cover around 40% of the total reasons for death, whereas the rest of the deaths are attributable to injuries and communicable diseases, among other reasons. To counter this, Morocco has increased its efforts to reduce maternal and under-five mortality between the time period of 1990 to 2015, with a reduction of 78.1% by effectively focusing on improving the standards of healthcare facilities. In addition, there have been efforts to improve the immunization and disease control programs intensively, which has resulted in the elimination of diseases such as malaria, trachoma, polio, and schistosomiasis. Morocco also reduced the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among the general population to around 0.1% as of 2017. Therefore, these factors show that the demand for proper infection control products and measures is set to increase and the market is poised to grow over the forecast period.

However, in Morocco, there is a presence of poor living standards and poor living conditions, which is making the burden of infections higher. As a result, prevention and control is the only solution to mitigate this risk. In addition, the primary healthcare facilities and services that are available in Morocco are not up to the standards set by the government and are not available outside the major cities and towns.

This has urged government organizations and other international bodies to take action to improve the facilities and discrepancies. For instance, the launch of the WHO Country Cooperation Strategic Agenda for the period 2017-2021, which is being funded and collaborated on by UNICEF, UNDAF, and WHO, among other organizations consists of four major strategic priorities. These include increasing access to affordable and high-quality healthcare, and contributing to the SDG’s in order to reduce the burden of disease, which includes effective infection prevention and control techniques. Reinforcing health security for the public, and supporting the development of strong governance in the healthcare sector.

The Healthcare sector shows growth prospects

The healthcare industry is expected to hold a notable market share over the forecast period on account of increasing and effective efforts being made by the government and other organizations in a bid to improve the state of healthcare facilities and provide effective infection control measures to minimize the spread of infections and reduce the mortality rate. In addition, the country’s cooperation programme also going to contribute to the market’s growth significantly over the forecast period.

Key Development:

  • Nov 2020: The Ministry of the Interior, Morocco Considers Sterilization to Reduce Stray Dog Population in the country. The interior ministry intends to mobilize a MAD 40 million ($4.4 million) budget for the sterilization program.

COVID-19 SCENARIO

The need for sterilization and disinfection in hospitals and clinics has increased during COVID-19. There have also been technological advances in sterilization and disinfection equipment, a surge in the outsourcing of sterilization services by hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and an increase in the production of single-use products and medical nonwovens. The COVID-19 outbreak has caused a sharp rise in demand for infection control products, which has had a significant impact on the expansion of the infection control market in Morocco. The market for infection control is likely to rise, but it will be constrained by the negative effects of chemical disinfectants and worries about the safety of reprocessed devices. On the other hand, during the forecast period, increased use of single-use medical nonwovens and devices is anticipated to present profitable prospects.
