  • In August 2023, APL, an American investment firm, planned to invest 125 billion yen ($854 million) in the construction of a data center in Kitakyushu, Japan. Kitakyushu is promoting itself as a nerve center substitute for Tokyo. The designs were made public in a city proposal that was brought before the council to sell city-owned property for the data center. In February 2022, to provide 900 megawatts (MW) of power capacity, GLP unveiled a significant plan to join the Japanese data center sector, positioning the firm as one of the nation's top data center operators. In the coming years, GLP hopes to invest over JPY 1.5 trillion, or around $12 billion, to meet Japan's growing need for high-performance, ecologically friendly data centers. The primary economic hubs of the nation, Greater Tokyo and Greater Osaka, are the major investment zones. These locations have high levels of internet usage and demand for digital applications, which is increasing the need for data centers.
  • Further, in March 2023, a significant data center in Osaka Keihanna, Japan, opened, according to Colt Data Centre Services, a global supplier of big business and hyperscale data center solutions. This is a component of Keihanna Science City, which is located close to Osaka and is one of Japan's primary hubs for business and research. This location represents another significant turning point in Colt DCS's growth plan and satisfies the demands of the company's domestic and international clients who plan to grow further in the APAC area.
