Larvicides Market Size, Share, And Trends By Control Method (Biocontrol Agents, Chemical Agents, Insect Growth Regulators, Others), By End Use (Public Health, Agriculture, Commercial, Residential, Livestock), By Target (Mosquitoes, Flies, Others), And By Geography – Forecast From 2019 To 2024

Larvicides are insecticides targeted against the larval life stage of an insect. They are most commonly used against mosquitoes. The larvicides market is expected to have significant market growth due to the rising prevalence of vector-borne diseases and efforts taken to control the same. Climate change also increases the risk of diseases. Increasing adoption of the integrated pest management system and greater awareness about environmentally safe practices is expected to fuel the market growth. However, the high cost of larval control methods and larval resistance to commonly used pesticides are expected to hamper the market growth. By end-use, the Public Health segment is estimated to have the largest market share due to an increased threat to public health due to mosquito-borne diseases. By control method, the chemical agents segment is expected to have the largest market share as it is extensively used for the treatment of water infested with larvicides. By geography, North America is expected to have the largest market share due to the presence of a number of companies in this region.

INDUSTRY UPDATE

In September 2018, Valent U.S.A. LLC and Nufarm Americas, Inc. the two companies signed a 5-year distribution agreement extending Nufarm Americas’ position as the exclusive distributor of a broad portfolio of Valent branded products.

Sumitomo Chemical announced in May 2017 a novel long-lasting larvicide product – SumiLarv® 2MR, which has been specifically designed for container breeding mosquitoes. It received WHOPES recommendation.

In April 2018, Sumitomo Chemical, together with four other leading crop protection companies-BASF, Bayer, Mitsui Chemicals, and Syngenta-issued a joint statement, at the London Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held this week, that they will remain firmly committed to supporting the research, development, and supply of innovative products to eradicate malaria by 2040.
