February 2020 – Product Launch

A Singapore based company named Nuvojoy was reported to release a low-GI kueh lapis (Indonesian layered cake) premix for diabetics in April 2020, which is an addition to their then existing range of low-GI premixes for soy pudding and kueh bahulu (sponge cake) where consumers can add water and prepare it themselves.

September 2020 – Product Launch Plan

Along the same line, it was announced that Bayon Cereal Co., Ltd had plans to launch three products with low to the mid glycemic index (GI) which are reportedly beneficial for diabetics since such products assist in improving their blood glucose levels after certification from Australia’s Glycemic Index Foundation (GIF) is received.

Also, innovations haven’t been restricted to single end-use products only but also have been adopted by meal kit companies as well.

May 2018 – Product Launch

It was reported that a San Francisco meal kit company Sun Basket had reportedly expanded its meal portfolio Mediterranean, pescatarian, and vegan plans, integrating its approach of individualized nutrition with the launch of a meal plan that is diabetes-friendly and reportedly has carbohydrate conscious. It was developed in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

Besides government initiatives such as The War on Diabetes which was reportedly set in motion Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) in 2016 in response to the high significant health and societal burden posed by diabetes is also a key driving factor that is expected to facilitate the growth of the diabetic food market. Further with the commencement of Healthier Ingredient Development Scheme (HIDS) in 2017, that aims to encourage local food manufacturers to innovate and develop novel healthier food ingredients tailored to local tastes, and also acts to support the local industry in marketing the use of any new ingredients in the foodservice sector, a substantial number of unique ingredient suppliers have been onboarded. Besides, in view of ingredients, the increasing applications of artificial sweeteners like acesulfame potassium, aspartame, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose, among others are expected to reinforce the diabetic food market growth during the forecast period.
