Report Overview

3D Printing Ceramics Market Size:

The 3D Printing Ceramics market is expected to grow from US$138.407 million in 2025 to US$378.385 million in 2030, at a CAGR of 22.28%.

Ceramic 3D printing creates a 3D model of the scanned objective by designing ceramics under computer control. 3D-printed ceramics maintain excellent properties in comparison to standard 3D printing processes. In terms of temperature, ceramics can withstand temperatures of up to 1700 degrees Celsius, or 3092 degrees Fahrenheit. The 3D printing ceramics market’s growth is mainly driven by the high demand for dental and orthopaedic parts in the healthcare industry, as well as thermal insulation parts in the aerospace and defence sector. A variety of products have been launched from time to time by companies to maintain their competitiveness. Uprise 3D, a Shenzhen-based maker of 3D printers, recently released its latest model, the UPS-250. It is designed to replace the company's previous desktop 3D printer line, which had dual extrusion nozzles. Metals and ceramics can be 3D printed at the same time, making them suitable for applications such as functional prototypes and end-of-life tool components. Furthermore, Canon Inc., a Japanese multinational corporation, has developed a new technology for 3D printing ceramic parts using ceramic materials created specifically for use in 3D printers.

Ceramics can be printed using 3D printing technology that uses a non-toxic glaze. Through this process, the manufacturing of kitchen utensils, tableware, and tools will be increased. The global market is therefore driven by this factor. A wide variety of medical products are made with ceramic materials, including surgical equipment, dentures, implantable structures, and tissue engineering devices. Ceramic 3D printing is on the rise due to this demand. As an example, the French company Nanoe offered additive manufacturing materials in 2018. It is called Zetamix, and it offers metal and ceramic extrusion filaments. It allows professionals and manufacturers to create metal and ceramic parts to match their exact specifications.

3D Printing Ceramics Market Growth Factors:

  • The rise in demand for medical level ceramic products:

Many products within the healthcare industry use ceramics, such as dentures, surgical instruments, prosthetics, and implants. The demand for 3D  printedceramics is growing. Additionally, the market for 3D printed ceramics is being driven by the increasing demand for high-quality ceramics certified by various governing bodies for medical applications. Oral implants are commonly made of zirconium, as they can be customisedand take on the appearance of original teeth. Consequently, there is an increase in dental professionals partnering with ceramics manufacturers using 3D printing technology. Admatec introduced medical-grade ceramic materials in June 2020 with its Admaflex 3D printing systems.   Formlabs, a 3D printer manufacturer, added two new materials to its dental portfolio in December 2020: a Permanent Crown Resin and a Soft Tissue Starter Pack. Specifically optimised for 3D printing dental crowns, inlays, and onlays, the resin is tooth-colored and ceramic-filled. Furthermore, Lithoz, an Austrian ceramic AM company, announced a partnership with Swiss ceramic implantologist- Dr. Jens Tartsch, in July 2020. Dr. Tartsch, who is also the president of the European Society for Ceramic Implantology (ESCI), As part of this project, the partners will identify new applications to develop ceramic implants made from 3D printing for the dental sector. Such developments will propel the market growth of the 3D ceramic printing market.

3D Printing Ceramics Market Restrain:

  • Lack of research and development

Companies such as 3D Systems and EnvisionTec, which have been developing metal- and composite-based 3D printing techniques, have been primarily involved in the development of metal and composite 3D printing since metal and composite materials have outnumbered ceramics in the automotive and manufacturing industries. The market for 3D printed ceramics has been adversely affected by this. There are several factors affecting the global 3D  printing ceramics market, such as slower technological advancements when compared to metals and plastics, the higher cost of ceramic 3D printers due to their low volume of use, and the low adoption rate of new technologies in emerging economies.
