The Middle East and Africa baby body care market is estimated to grow from the market value of US$4.319 billion in the year 2020 to reach the market value of US$5.614 billion in 2027 at a CAGR of 3.82%.

The growth in the baby body care market in the Middle East and Africa is attributed to the rising awareness among the population in terms of the body hygiene of infants and the increasing concern over the health of babies.

Baby body care includes toiletries, cosmetics, and many others. The toiletries include fragrances, disposable diapers, baby wipes, and training nappies. The cosmetics include hair care, skin care, bath care, and oral care products.  The rising population or increasing birth rate is one of the significant factors supporting the robustness of the baby body care market in the Middle East and Africa. Furthermore, the changing lifestyle associated with the increase in the number of working women is increasing disposable income and the number of families with dual income.  This has helped to improve the living standards of the countries in this region, which has fuelled the purchase rate of baby body care products in the region.

Key driving factors

The growth in the baby body care market in the countries of the Middle East and Africa is mainly attributed to the increasing birth rate. The population in these countries has registered rapid growth as the birth rate per woman has decreased. For example, according to a World Bank report, Egypt's total population in 2020 will be 102 million. In contrast, Israel's population increased from 9 million to 9.21 million in 2019 and is expected to continue growing.  Moreover, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have also shown rapid growth in population in the last few years, with 35 million and 10 million in 2020, respectively. Although the crude birth rate is decreasing in these countries, the increasing population is boosting the demand for baby body care products in these countries.

Furthermore, the rising number of working women is also another factor in the increasing demand for baby care products.  According to the World Bank, the female labor force has increased by  17.48% in 2020, with the increase in the total labor force up to 6.8 million in 2020. The same is the estimate for Saudi Arabia, as the total labor force coming is expected to increase to 14.45 million in 2020. Hence, the increase in the working population, especially working women, is spurring the need for baby care products.  which is a driving growth factor in the baby body care market in the region.

Restraints

Most baby body care products make use of plastic or fibers. The hazardous effects of plastic and the raw materials used in these products are the factors resisting the purchase rate of these products, hence hampering the growth in this region.

 Latest developments

In 2021, an Israel-based startup, Pika, launched a baby diaper machine. To replace disposable diapers with cloth diapers, Pika has provided a solution to wash these diapers and keep them clean and hygienic for the baby's use.

The Turkey-based baby care brand Hayat Kimya July 2020 launched its new product “Molfix Air Dry Baby Diaper ” which is claimed to be the best in the Nigerian market by the company.

Regional analysis

Turkey is considered to have a prominent market share in the baby body care market in the Middle East and Africa region. The comparatively high disposable income and the key market players' development are the factors contributing to the market growth in the country.

COVID-19 Impact on the Middle East and Africa Baby Body Care Market:

The outbreak of COVID-19 affected the industrial sector due to the disrupted supply chain, restrictions on travel, and shut down of retail stores. However, with the strategies played by key market players, an increasing population, and rising awareness and need for the hygiene of infants or babies, baby body care products see steady demand. This is also expected to grow during the forecast period.
